The Law of Compassion


To have compassion is to have understanding. To be compassionate is to be forgiving. To develop compassion, first understand and forgive yourself, knowing that you are doing the best you can within your current belief system and your current capability levels. The more understanding, forgiveness and loving kindness you can give yourself the more genuine compassion you can feel for someone else and the more compassion you can give to someone else.

Do not judge yourself or anyone else. There are only teachers for you, not friends or enemies. There are only lessons for you, not "good" or "bad" experiences. You are here to heal, grow and evolve. Be kind to yourself, you are a child of the Universe. Be compassionate to yourself and to others in your understanding, forgiveness and love.

Evening run

There's so much more to an evening run than a physical workout. It's an opportunity to interact with the world. I got to save a guy from finding his car battery dead tomorrow morning by pointing out he'd left his lights on as he was headed inside his house. I got to retrieve a bouncing ball two kids were playing with that had rolled to the other side of the street, which I was on. It earned me a smile and a big thank you from one of the kids. I also got lots of nods and friendly greetings from various people I passed. And then there were the geese, flying in perfect formation overhead. And the evening sun on the trees. A couple of dads with their kids at the neighborhood school, tossing a baseball around. So many good reasons to get outside and move.
